FRUITS AND VEGETABLES

REFRIGERATION AND AIR TREATMENT FOR FRUITS AND VEGETABLES

Frigo Tecnica Internazionale develops specialized solutions for industrial refrigeration and air treatment in the fruit and vegetable sector, with the aim of preserving the quality of fruits and vegetables at every stage of the supply chain, from field to table.

In response to the growing demand for natural and minimally processed foods (free from additives, preservatives and pesticides), the main post-harvest challenge is to extend the shelf life of fresh produce, while maintaining its physical and organoleptic properties.

Through a customized approach, the company supports customers in all stages of cold and air treatment, offering tailor-made solutions for the storage and processing of fruits and vegetables.

Applications cover the entire production cycle: from seed and plant preservation, to rapid cooling and drying for storage preparation, to long-term storage with controlled atmosphere, humidity regulation, and energy savings. Solutions are also provided for ripening or de-greening chambers for climacteric fruits and for primary treatments such as IQF freezing, on plates or block, dehydration and cutting.

Each system is designed with the specific needs of each type of fruit or vegetable in mind, thanks to accurate control of temperature, humidity, internal atmosphere and biological treatments, such as anti-germination systems. The proposal includes a complete and integrated package: isothermal panels, refrigeration systems and air treatment systems designed to optimize storage performance. In addition, solutions are available for positive- or negative-temperature storage, with hygrometric regulation according to product requirements.

COMPLETE REALIZATION
OF THE REFRIGERATION SYSTEM

Frigo Tecnica Internazionale manages the entire cycle of industrial refrigeration equipment implementation, from design to commissioning.

Each project is the result of a detailed analysis that considers thermal loads, operating conditions, and current regulations (F-Gas, ATEX), with the goal of developing efficient and reliable solutions.

Engineering includes refrigeration system sizing, component selection, and control logic. In-house manufacturing ensures construction quality and traceability. Onsite installation includes assembly, wiring, and integration with any existing systems.

Testing, performance checks and issue of technical documentation are performed during commissioning of the refrigeration system.

Structured after-sales services complete the offering: maintenance, service, retrofit and revamping to ensure operational continuity and compliance with environmental regulations.

Preliminary technical analysis, definition of needs, assessment of regulatory and operational constraints, with the goal of developing a tailored, highly efficient solution.

Refrigeration system sizing, component selection, and control logic design. Everything is geared toward ensuring reliability, performance, and ease of operation.

In-house production of components in controlled environments to ensure build quality, traceability, and certain lead times.

On-site system installation, including mechanical assembly, electrical wiring, thermal insulation piping works and integration with any existing systems.

Performing functional testing, performance verification, testing and issuing technical documentation upon completion of the system.

Routine and extraordinary maintenance, technical support, retrofitting and revamping to ensure operational continuity and compliance with environmental regulations.

CASE HISTORY

Frigo Tecnica Internazionale provides refrigeration systems for post-harvest treatment, storage and distribution of fresh and fourth range fruit and vegetables. In this section we present solutions developed to slow biological activity, reduce waste and preserve the organoleptic properties of the goods.

REFRIGERATION FOR FRUIT AND VEGETABLE STORAGE

Slowing down the biological activities of fruit and vegetables and preserving their organoleptic properties over time are fundamental requirements for any operator in the sector.

In this field, Frigo Tecnica Internazionale applies the most modern technologies designed to create the best conditions for maintaining the nutritional principles and organoleptic properties of fresh produce, allowing it to be consumed in places and seasons other than the harvest.

Our company has also developed specific skills related to refrigeration applications in the floriculture, tropical fruit and fresh fruit sectors.

FAQs

It is a technique that reduces oxygen and increases CO₂ in cold storage to slow ripening. It is mainly used for apples, pears, kiwis, and other extended-storage fruits. It allows freshness to be maintained for several months, reducing losses and improving seasonal storage management.

Maintaining relative humidity between 85% and 95% and using breathable packaging is essential. Separating ethylene-emitting produce from sensitive produce and controlling ventilation prevents wilting and accelerated ripening. The right combination of temperature and humidity is the key to preserving freshness and commercial value.

It depends on the type: leafy vegetables keep best at 0-2 °C, while tropical fruits need 13-15 °C. Cold rooms must provide even temperature and high humidity to extend shelf-life, reduce waste, and maintain optimal flavor and texture.

Yes, and the alterations change depending on the type of produce. Vegetables such as spinach and broccoli can be frozen after blanching.
Berries and fruit pulp lend themselves well to freezing. Quick freezing preserves taste and nutrients, but some products lose texture and are suitable only for later cooking or preparation.
